Covered Patio

Hi guys!  This week I spent some time freshening up our covered patio and landscaping.  We just got a new patio set from Lowe’s, it’s the Allen & Roth Belanore set.  I really liked the fact that I got to pick the fabrics without any extra charges, you could even have it shipped for free.  I love to read a good book stretched out on the love seat:)  Hopefully next year I can find some matching cushions for our dining set.  We enjoy having friends and family over throughout the summer.  It’s nice having enough room for everyone to hang out comfortably.

Through the years I’ve always been paranoid when little ones come up to the grill when we have cookouts.  So when we did the landscaping for the patio we incorporated an area for the grill that would protect children from being burned by making it harder to access, this has really made me more comfortable when we are entertaining.

We also used our landscaping to create some privacy by planting the large bush behind the love seat and chairs.  Because we are in a northern climate we prefer to use hardy perennials in our landscaping.   After remodeling we reseeded most of our lawn.  I was really picky about what seed we used because I wanted something that was more drought tolerant and low maintenance compared to what we had in the past.  We selected Super Turf II from Mulhall’s in Omaha, it’s a dwarf tall fescue.  It’s been 3 years since we seeded and we really like it.  The grass is a dark green that stays thicker looking.  It turns green a little bit later in the spring than grasses like Kentucky blue grass, but it stays green much longer through the summer when we experience drought-like conditions.

We also have a fire pit in our backyard that we really like.  Jim built it and the removable grill grate for it.  We usually use it to cook appetizers like side pork and bacon wrapped jalapenos and of course we cook s’mores over it.    I’m looking forward to experimenting with some new recipes over the fire this summer:)

I’m linked up to the Outdoor Extravaganza Party at Inspired Living.  For more patio ideas check it out!
